1st Entry: The Acknowledgment Before The Renaissance

The Roman's Language

One of the ideas that I found intriguing that I encountered regardings one of the five influences was the language of the Roman Empire. You may wonder what language did the Romans speak or write? To answer that: it's Latin.

I liked how Latin became a foundation to most modern European languages and how it also became a foundation for what we speak and write today. It's quite interesting how ideas such as language can bring a connection to the world and make an impact on communication.

The influence of Latin made its way to the present-day yet "the language itself was also inspired by the Greeks" (Legends and Chronicles). Latin may have made its domination but the Greek language has influenced Latin. It's interesting how one language has made a major impact on another language that has become a dominant language in Ancient Rome.

Monotheism

Monotheism is the idea that there is only one true god which was developed by the Hebrews. I learned that before the Hebrews converted to monotheism, they practice the sacrifice of things to many gods. One of the things that I learned from Christianity that became an important role of monotheism is the covenant. Covenant is the idea of making a deal with god. In this very case, the story of Abraham starts off with him making a deal with God. God promised Abraham to "make you a great nation" and "make your name great" (Genesis 12:1-3). I can slightly recall the story of Abraham, but I didn't hear about the return of how Abraham's kids must be circumcised in order for the deal to be kept. So it's interesting to learn the religious authority of monotheism that continues to be passed onto Christianity.
Three years ago, I was enrolled in an AP World History class, but I still can't recall much that I learned from that class. Truthfully, it was one of the worse classes that I have ever been in. One thing that I can recall from that class that connected Islam was the Five Pillars of Islam.

According to the Five Pillars, "There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God", Muslims must pray facing Mecca, donations to the poor must be made, fasting and visiting the Mecca.

Islam, Christianity, the Romans, Greece, and Middle Ages has great influences on the Renaissance, but the knowledge above is what I found interesting that connects to what the Renaissance soon will become.

Here's a video more into The Covenant.
